Fernando Alonso's lips remain sealed over his movements for next year as the European season of 2009 draws to a close; with only the Grands Prix of Belgium this weekend and Italy in a fortnight remaining, rumours connecting the former double World Champion with the Ferrari team continue to circulate in the Spa paddock.
Before briefly discussing his plans for next year, Alonso gave the impression to reporters in the Spa-Francorchamps paddock that chances of Renault winning a race this season are sliding downhill. "We will see," he began to explicate on Thursday afternoon. "This year is different and you never know what is going to happen; last year it was difficult to predict our final part of the championship and this year it is also difficult to predict how it is going to be for us and the other teams.
"Maybe last year we had a better opportunity, because the car was improving with every race, whereas this year that is not the case; the 2009 Renault is already finished and the 2010 car has already started, so there will be little improvement from now on and it will become so more difficult to win races, but in the last three races we have been very competitive."
He added that some extra luck in Budapest and Valencia could have helped contribute to podium finishes before temporarily conversing of 2010: "We are still thinking and evaluating some possibilities so we'll see - maybe next week is too early…"
