Badoer fined four times for pit lane speeding

Friday, August 21, 2009

Post-practice reports reveal that Ferrari's Luca Badoer picked up four individual pit lane speeding penalties in Valencia on Friday. The Italian ends a ten-year draught by re-entering Formula One this weekend but has already amassed a total of €5,400 (£4,680) in fines plus an official reprimand.

Replacing the injured Felipe Massa at Ferrari for the first time this weekend, the Scuderia's longest-serving driver has finally been granted the opportunity to race for the Maranello team although, after finishing 20th and 18th in the respective first and second practice sessions, the Italian is in need of a self-confessed improvement.

Despite keeping his nose clean on the track, the 38-year-old incurred a considerable amount of damage off it by receiving four separate penalties for pit lane speeding. With the limit in the pits being 60km/h (37.28mph), Badoer exceeded the figure twice in both the morning and afternoon sessions.

With the first three recorded incidents picking up individual fines of €600, €1,800 and €3,000 as the number of penalties grew, the fourth and final of the day resulted in an interview between Badoer, a Ferrari team representative and FIA-appointed race stewards after which a reprimand was awarded.
