Red Bull extend Vettel contract

Friday, August 21, 2009

Sebastian Vettel and Red Bull Racing have lengthened their partnership by another two seasons, it was confirmed by the two parties in Valencia on Friday morning. The German, who has won two races for the Milton Keynes-based outfit this season, will be retained until the end of the 2011 season.

With 22-year-old Vettel currently 23 points behind the championship-leading Jenson Button, the Heppenheim driver remains a title contender with seven races remaining in the 2009 season.

Vettel, who joined Red Bull Racing this season after stepping up from the sister Scuderia Toro Rosso squad, will race for the outfit until the end of 2011 with an option open for 2012.

Sebastian Vettel entered Formula One as a teenager by substituting for Robert Kubica at the 2007 American Grand Prix - in which he scored a point - before switching to Toro Rosso for the final seven Grands Prix of the season. A superlative pole position and win for the team came at Monza last year before moving to the principal Red Bull team to join Mark Webber for what has become a double title attack in 2009.
