Vatanen reveals members of cabinet

Friday, August 14, 2009

FIA president elect Ari Vatanen has announced those who will make up his cabinet as the Finn runs for the position currently held by Max Mosley. With the current leader, who has held the post since 1993, leaving office in October, Vatanen is running for the role against former Ferrari team principal Jean Todt.

With Finland's Vatanen, who is World Rally Champion of 1981 and recently retired after a decade in the European parliament, continuing preparations in his bid to become president of the Formula One governing body, details of his cabinet members have been released.

Spaniard Fernando Falco - a member of Spain's Higher Council for road safety - has been suggested as a candidate for president of the FIA Senate with Singaporean Bernard Tay - elected FIA president for Region II (Asia/Pacific) in April - as deputy president for mobility. Germany's Hermann Tomczyk - a key player in German motoring body ADAC and the German Motor Sport Federation (DMSB) - would be the deputy president for motorsport in the event of Vatanen being elected by the federation's many member groups in individual countries.

"These cabinet members all have a long and proven track record in the FIA and in their respective countries," 57-year-old Vatanen explained. "Together with them, we can bring about the necessary changes to make the FIA more transparent, more efficient and more effective as well as increasing the benefits for its members. It is now time for change and, together, we can achieve that."
