Jenson Button and Brawn GP have been fined €2,600 (£2,250) for speeding in the pit lane during practice for the European Grand Prix on Friday. The championship leader was judged to have been over the speed limit by 12.7km/h (7.9mph) and promptly received the penalty as a result.
Englishman Button was punished on Friday after FIA race director Charlie Whiting submitted the complaint to the stewards of the meeting, explaining how the Brawn had been doing 72.7km/h (45.2mph) in the 60km/h (37.3mph)-restricted pit lane.
Having investigated the incident which took place in the morning's first practice session of the weekend, stewards imposed the fine for a breach of Article 30.12 of the sporting regulations.
